Thermal Imaging Cameras are to be used by County Sheriff’s Office in Illinois to fight crime

Thermal Imaging Cameras will be used by the County Sherriff department in Harvey, Illinois to fight crime and potentially save lives by locating people and weapons in the dark.

Since the majority of the cases the sheriff's office handles are in rural areas, these devices will be a valuable tool to help combat crime.

"The deputies will easily be able to pan a field or as they're driving down the road, be able to spot things that are hotter than other things surrounding it," explains Undersheriff Todd Hanchett.

Searching for people in the dark of night will be made easier for the County Sheriff deputies by using state-of-the-art thermal imaging cameras. The cameras capture heat, instead of light like normal cameras used for snapshots and can be used to combat rural burglaries and also metal thefts.

Thermal imaging technology is available from e2v, who has a 30 year heritage in the industry. Further information on the Argus handheld thermal imaging camera from e2v can be found by visiting www.argusdirect.com/security.
