e2v releases the QorIQ P4080 Eight-core Communications Processor for applications with multi-decade production plans and extended-reliability requirements

e2v, the leading hi-rel semiconductor solutions provider, has announced the availability of their P4080 extended-reliability version of Freescale’s P4080 QorIQprocessor with data path, for power-sensitive and computation intensive applications in aerospace, defence and demanding outdoor environments.

The QorIQ P4080 processor, the first product offered in the QorIQ P4 platform series, delivers industry leading performance in the under 30-watt power category. It combines eight Power Architecturee500mc cores – operating at frequencies of up to 1.5 GHz – with high-performance datapath acceleration logic, and network and peripheral bus interfaces. All this designed in the latest generation 45nm technology to deliver high-performance in a very low power envelope.

The QorIQ P4080 processor can be used for combined control, datapath, and application layer processing. Its high level of integration offers significant performance benefits compared to multiple discrete devices, while also greatly simplifying board design. The processor is well-suited for applications that are highly compute-intensive, I/O intensive, or both, making it ideal for applications in military and aerospace domains, including radar and electronic countermeasures.

“This Octal e500mc core communications processor breaks yet another level in the processing power per watt. With less than 30W overall power consumption for 8 cores clocked at 1.5GHz each, the compute intensive embedded systems in aerospace and defence industries can now benefit from heavy processing power in the sub-30W range, with extended reliability”, says Eric Marcelot, head of semiconductor marketing at e2v, adding “this is part of our long term agreement with Freescale and will be imbedded within our semiconductor lifecycle management programme, securing long term availability”.

The P4080 Octal embedded processor is manufactured on Freescale’s 45nm CMOS on SOI process technology and is now available in extended temperature range (-40°C to +110°C) in a FC-PBGA 1295 pin package. e2v is also planning to support the full military temperature range (-55°C to +125°C), with products available end of 2011.
