e2v launches new quad 8-bit and 10-bit ADC plug-and-play

To simplify and speed up the design of GHz range data acquisition systems e2v, the hi-rel semiconductor solutions provider, has introduced two new demonstration kits for Giga-sample data converters. Both kits enable faster evaluation of e2v 4-channel (quad) 8-bit and 10-bit Analogue to Digital Converters (ADC), compared to standard evaluation boards, and reduce R&D and design costs of Giga-Samples Per Second (GSPS) speed data acquisition systems.

The first kit to be released is the e2v EV8AQ160TPY-DK, for e2v’s EV8AQ160 quad 8 bit 5 GSPS ADC, which is in wide use by the oscilloscope industry and for time domain systems. The second is the e2v EV10AQ190TPY-DK for e2v’s EV10AQ190 Quad 10 bit 5 GSPS ADC, designed for a variety of applications including data acquisition boards, military equipment, scientific instruments and test equipment.

e2v’s new demonstration kits remove many of the technical complexities of designing a system based on GSPS data converters. System designers confronted with GHz analogue design challenges can now benefit from e2v’s solutions to simplify the design of their GSPS systems, accelerating timescales to market with fewer design risks. In addition, these new generation demonstration kits require minimal external equipment and provide analogue engineers with a ‘plug-and-play’ data acquisition and development tool compliant to VITA 57 FMC FPGA Mezzanine Card standards. The new kits also enable a direct board connection to the Xilinx Virtex 6 ML605 development kit via FMC connectors. Other VITA57 FMC compatible FPGA development kits will also be supported in the future.

System designers already working with the Virtex 6 ML605 development kit can now add e2v kits as a proven development tool offering multi-output voltage regulation, on-board low-jitter clocking solutions and multi-channel ADC input driver solutions, all optimised for maximum efficiency and ADC performance. Schematics, board layout and the acquisition VHDL code are provided by e2v to assist in reducing system design timescales and design errors. In addition, a PC-based user interface and USB bus enables quick changes of configuration while using the kits for ADC evaluation purposes.

“Designers with limited experience in the GSPS field can now gain access to GHz data acquisition solutions that are easy and fast to implement” said Nicolas Chantier, Product Marketing Manager of e2v’s hi-rel semiconductor solutions division, adding “in addition, designers with solid experience in GSPS systems will also appreciate the fast ADC evaluation process and savings in R&D time”

e2v application engineers will run live demonstration of the new kits at e2v’s lab on booth 181, Hall A5 at Electronica 2010 – Munich Nov. 9th to 12th 2010.
