e2v extends the life of key 68k microprocessors for a further 10 years

e2v the leading high-reliability semiconductor provider, today announce that, as part of its long standing partnership with Freescale, the 68040 (CQFP and CPGA packages) and the 68302 and 68360 (CPGA package) microprocessors will continue to be manufactured by e2v for a further 10 years.

Freescale made End of Life (EOL) announcements for these 68k microprocessors in November 2013 and April 2014, with last orders accepted up to one year after these dates. Thanks to its partnership agreement, e2v will continue to source 68302 and 68360 wafers from Freescale and will maintain assembly and test capability in Grenoble, France to extend the availability of these products in ceramic packages. Freescale will be discontinuing the wafer fabrication for the TS68040 microprocessor in the course of 2015 and e2v is building wafer bank inventory for customers wishing to secure strategic access to this device over the next 10 years.

Richard Gibbs, President of e2v’s High-reliability Semiconductor Solutions Division commented, “By extending the life of these products for an extra 10 years and more, we can offer solutions to all customers using these processors who would have otherwise been adversely affected by their withdrawal. We will continue to co-operate closely with Freescale to ensure that customers experience a smooth continuation of supply”
